João Pedro Soeiro de Matos Fernandes

João Pedro Soeiro de Matos Fernandes is a civil engineer and business administrator. He was Portugal’s Minister for the Environment and Climate Action. Initially Minister of the Environment, on October 15, 2018 he combined the Environment portfolio with the Energy Transition portfolio, which came out of the Ministry of Economy.
He graduated in Civil Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto in 1991 (Territorial Planning option) and completed a Master’s degree in Transport at the Instituto Superior Técnico in 1995.
Today he is a senior advisor at the Knowledge Institute for the areas of energy and the environment. The Institute’s aim is to research and promote knowledge on current issues such as ESG and the energy transition.
