Filipe Brito Bastos holds a PhD in Law from the European University Institute in Florence.

In 2018 he defended, under the guidance of Professor Deirdre Curtin, his dissertation on compound administrative procedures – that is, administrative procedures with national and European phases – in the light of the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union and on the implications of this case law for the transformation of the administrative system of the European Union.

Between 2018 and 2020, he conducted his research and taught at the Faculty of Law of the University of Amsterdam, and was a post-doctoral researcher with the Amsterdam Centre for European Law and Governance.

He is currently an Assistant Professor at NOVA School of Law, where he has been teaching, since the academic year 2020-2021, the subjects of European Administrative Law, Constitutional Law and Administrative Procedure Law. He is also the Coordinator pro tempore of NOVA LAW GREEN LAB.

He is currently developing his research on issues related to the intersection between Public Law and European Union Law.

In addition to several publications on (internal) Administrative Law, namely on Public Domain Law – including the publication, in co-authorship with Almedina, of the Commentary on the Legal Regime of Public Real Estate Assets -, he has published articles in peer-reviewed international journals of reference in the areas of European (Public) Law. These include the Common Market Law Review, European Public Law, European Constitutional Law Review, European Journal of Risk Regulation and Review of European Administrative Law, or the German Law Journal. He has also published a chapter on forms of multi-level administrative cooperation in the Banking Union, in a collective work published by Edward Elgar and coordinated by Professor Chiara Zilioli, Director of Legal Services of the European Central Bank, and Karl-Philipp Wojcik, General Counsel of the Single Resolution Board.

He has already carried out, upon request, individually or co-authored, studies for the European Parliament and for a European Agency concerning matters of European administrative law, in particular on relations between national and European entities in regulatory procedures.

He was awarded in 2019 the Young Scholars’ Award of the Research Network for European Administrative Law (ReNEUAL), of which he is a member. He is also a member of the International Society for Public Law.
