Joana Freitas

Joana Freitas is an Executive Board Member at EDP Generation, part of EDP Group – an integrated utility with a focus on renewables, with over 13.000 employees worldwide, #4 in wind globally. Her responsibilities include the Just Transition from coal to green power, Business Development, Innovation and Digital, Sustainability and Stakeholder engagement. She is the vice-Chair of Eurelectric’s Generation and Sustainability Committee, and a member of the Steering Committee of the European Commission’s Investors Dialogue initiative. Previously, she led a career as an executive in infrastructures’ operations and finance, having started out as McKinsey consultant, and then a member of the Cabinet of the Secretary of State of Treasury and Finance. Joana is the host of the Podcast Net Zero on the energy transition and climate change in Europe, from the Florence School of Regulation, the co-author of the e-publication The Journey to Net Zero (https://cadmus.eui.eu//handle/1814/72002), and the co-founder of gender balance initiative https://leadingtogether.org. She holds a MSc in Economics from Porto University and an MBA from INSEAD.
