José Eduardo Martins has been a partner at Abreu Advogados since 2005, working mainly in the areas of environmental, commercial and real estate law. He is one of the Portuguese lawyers with the longest and most in-depth experience in the area of the environment, energy and natural resources.
José Eduardo Martins’ main practice focuses on public law, in matters related to industrial and environmental licensing, electricity generation, carbon license generation and transactions, environmental asset accounting, water management and waste management.
José Eduardo also has extensive experience in the public sector, having served as Secretary of State for the Environment in the XV Portuguese Constitutional Government, between 2002-2004, and having been a member of the Portuguese Parliament between 1999 and 2012.
In 2021, José Eduardo was appointed Chairman of the Environment and Energy Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce Portugal (ICC Portugal).
He is a co-coordinating partner of the Cape Verde desk.
